Kowloon-Canton Railway

Construction.

I have the honour to forward for the informa-

tion of the Secretary of State copies of flying seal corres-

pondence which has passed betw.en the Consulting Engineers and

She Chief Resident En, ineer of the Kowloon-Canton Railway re-

garding certain bridges under construction on this line which

the Governor has ordered to be specially inspected by a Com-

mittee appointe' by him.

2. The questions involved are of much importance

that tho Consulting Engineers have sent their report to us, a

copy of which I enclose, and we ontirely agree with the con-

clusions they have come to.

3. I also enclose a copy of a letter in whie! the

Consulting Engineers propose that Mr. A.J.Barry who is about to

proceed to China ghould inspect the works in progress on their

behalf and submit a report.

Yesterda, wo received a further letter under

flying seal from the Resident Engineer enclosing copy of the

report by the Committee appointed by Sir Frederic Lugard

together with Mr. Eves' reply. This we have sent to the Con-

sulting: En, inears for their further report and we would surgest

that
